Unwanted Hair
Unwanted hair on the underarms, legs, face or bikini area can be reduced with laser, which needs repeated sessions. The main question for cost is how the clinic divides the body into areas and how many sessions it expects. A low price on one small area says little about the cost of a full plan.
Common causes
- Natural hair growth patterns that vary by body area
- Hormonal differences, including conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome
- Genetics and ethnicity
- Some medicines that increase hair growth
- Personal preference for smoother skin
How doctors usually approach it
- Check for a medical cause
- Sudden or heavy hair growth in unusual areas should be reviewed by a doctor.
- Laser in a series
- Hair is only vulnerable in its growth phase, so sessions are spaced several weeks apart for months.
- Match the device to skin
- Skin tone and hair color determine which laser is safer and effective.
- Combine areas thoughtfully
- Bundling several areas can lower the total, but each needs its own session count.
- Maintain
- Some people need occasional touch-ups, and light or grey hair may not respond.
Budgeting for unwanted hair: how plans are priced
Write down the areas first, then ask how the clinic defines each. Half legs versus full legs, bikini line versus full bikini, and one underarm versus both are common points where two quotes differ. Prices are usually per area per session, so the total is the sum of the areas multiplied by the sessions, less any bundle adjustment.
Sessions are the largest unknown. Several are typically needed, spaced weeks apart, and the exact number depends on hair, skin and area. Ask the doctor for an expected range and whether the quote includes touch-ups. A package is cheaper per session only if you attend them all within its validity period. For a short stay in Korea, one trial session may fit, while a full course would need to be continued at home.
Safety adds to the estimate. A test pulse, a consultation and numbing cream for sensitive areas may be separate lines. Side effects include redness, swelling, burns and pigment change, particularly on tanned or darker skin, so sun avoidance before and after is part of the plan. Hair that is white, grey or very fine often responds poorly, and the doctor should tell you before you pay.
Unwanted Hair: common questions
Is the price per session or for the whole course?
Usually per session and area, with packages for the course. Ask what is included.
Can I do just one session while visiting?
You can, but hair reduction needs a series. A single session gives limited results.
Will white or grey hair respond?
Usually poorly, since lasers target pigment.
Does a bundle of areas always save money?
Not necessarily. Check each area's session count and the definition of the zone.
