Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses light energy absorbed by hair pigment to reduce hair growth. It needs repeated sessions, so the cost question is less about one visit than about a whole course. Clinics define areas and packages in different ways, which makes side-by-side comparison tricky.
How it works
A diode or similar laser sends pulses of light into the skin. The pigment in the hair shaft absorbs the energy and converts it to heat, which is intended to disable the follicle. Hairs are only susceptible during their growth phase, and not all are in that phase at once, which is why several sessions are needed. Hair becomes finer and sparser for many people, though results vary and some regrowth can occur. Light hair, grey hair and very dark skin respond less predictably, and device choice matters for darker skin tones.
Who it may suit
- Underarm, bikini, leg, arm and facial hair that is dark and coarse
- People tired of shaving, waxing or ingrown hairs
- Those who can attend sessions at regular intervals over several months
- Adults wanting reduced hair growth rather than a single-visit fix
- Patients with a clear plan for sun protection between sessions
The treatment day
- Skin and hair check. The practitioner reviews hair color, skin tone, recent sun exposure and medicines, and may do a test pulse.
- Shave and clean. The area is shaved close and cleaned so the energy goes to the follicle.
- Laser pulses. The handpiece is moved over the area while cooling protects the surface.
- Soothe. A calming gel is applied and the next session is scheduled.
Aftercare
- Avoid sun and tanning on the treated area before and after sessions
- Use sunscreen on exposed areas
- Do not wax, pluck or use depilatory creams between sessions; shaving is fine
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and friction on the area for a day or two
- Moisturize if the skin feels dry or tight
Things to know first
- Redness, mild swelling and a prickling sensation after treatment are common
- Burns, blisters and pigment change (lighter or darker patches) can happen, especially on tanned or darker skin
- Rarely, hair growth can increase in treated or nearby areas
- Photosensitizing medicines, recent tanning, active infection and pregnancy usually call for postponing
- White, grey or very fine hair is unlikely to respond well
What the price of laser hair removal depends on
Most clinics price by area, with a small area such as the upper lip, a medium one such as the underarm and a large one such as the full legs on different lines. Check how the clinic defines each area: half legs versus full legs, bikini line versus full bikini, and whether both sides are counted. A low per-area figure may describe a smaller zone than you expect.
The number of sessions is the larger variable. Courses commonly run to several sessions spaced weeks apart, and sold individually or in packages. Package pricing lowers the average per session only if you attend them all, and the spacing may not suit a short stay in Korea. Ask how many sessions the doctor thinks you need, based on your hair and skin, and whether a touch-up visit is included.
Combining several areas often reduces the total through a bundle, but each area still needs to appear as its own line with its own session count. Also ask about the test pulse, the consultation fee, numbing cream for sensitive zones and VAT. For a visit of a few days, consider whether a single trial session is enough to show how your skin reacts before you commit to more.
Laser Hair Removal: common questions
Why do clinics quote different prices for the same body area?
They may define the area differently, use different devices or assume different session counts. Ask for the exact zone and the number of sessions.
Is a package cheaper in practice?
Only if you attend every session in the validity period. For a short stay, a single session or a short run may cost less overall.
Do I pay again for touch-ups?
Policies differ. Ask whether the course includes a touch-up and for how long.
Can I get a price before I arrive?
You can get an estimate by area, but the doctor decides the plan after checking your hair and skin.
