Hair Loss Injection (Scalp Mesotherapy)
Hair loss injections, also called scalp mesotherapy, place small amounts of a nutrient or growth-supporting solution into the scalp. They are used to support thinning hair, not to restore a full head of hair. Since the usual plan is a series of visits over months, the budget depends on what is injected and how often.
How it works
A fine needle or a multi-needle device delivers a solution into the upper layers of the scalp. The mix can contain vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid or other components chosen by the doctor, and some clinics offer polynucleotide or peptide products. The aim is to support the scalp environment and the follicles that are still active. Follicles that have already stopped producing hair do not recover this way. Evidence for different mixtures varies, results differ between people, and treatment is often combined with medicines or topical products.
Who it may suit
- Early or mild thinning where follicles are still active
- Shedding after illness, stress or hormonal change, once the doctor has checked the cause
- Support alongside prescribed medicine or topical products
- Scalp that looks weak or dry with reduced density
- People who accept gradual change over months
The treatment day
- Scalp examination. The doctor looks at the pattern of thinning, may take close-up images and asks about medicines and health.
- Product selection. A solution is chosen based on the cause and extent of thinning.
- Numbing and cleansing. The scalp is cleaned and numbing cream is applied if desired.
- Injection. The solution is placed at multiple small points across the targeted area.
Aftercare
- Avoid washing the hair for the period the clinic advises, often until the next day
- Skip heavy exercise and hot saunas for the rest of the day
- Do not scratch the scalp where small bumps or pinpoint marks appear
- Continue any prescribed medicine or topical product as instructed
- Report fever, spreading redness or unusual pain
Things to know first
- Pinpoint bleeding, tenderness, small bumps and mild swelling are common for a day or two
- Headache, bruising and, uncommonly, infection or allergic reaction can occur
- Scalp infection, active skin disease and some clotting problems are reasons to wait
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding require discussion with the doctor before treatment
- It does not treat scarring hair loss or bald areas with no active follicles, and results vary
What the price of hair loss injections depends on
The solution is the first variable. A simple vitamin-based mix, a hyaluronic acid product and a growth-factor or polynucleotide product are not equivalent in cost, and the quote should name which one is used. The volume matters too: some clinics price by vial or ampoule, others by the area of scalp treated, such as the frontal region versus the whole scalp.
The second is the number of visits. Treatment is typically a run of sessions a few weeks apart followed by maintenance, so the cost of a single session is only a part of the plan. Ask how many sessions the doctor expects, when results will be reviewed and what happens if there is no visible change. A clear stopping point protects you from open-ended spending.
Compare also what sits beside the injection: a scalp examination or imaging fee, numbing, take-home products and any prescribed medicine, which may be billed separately and which often matter more to the outcome than the injection itself. Check the VAT status. For visitors, the spacing between sessions may not fit a short trip, and a plan built around a few visits across several months deserves an honest question about whether it is practical.
Hair Loss Injection (Scalp Mesotherapy): common questions
Is the price per session or per vial?
Both approaches exist. Ask what the figure covers, and how many vials or injection points are assumed.
How many sessions should I budget for?
A series over several months is common, with maintenance afterward. The doctor sets the number after examining your scalp.
Are prescribed medicines part of the quote?
Usually not. Ask whether oral or topical products are separate lines.
What if I do not see any change?
Ask in advance how the clinic reviews progress and whether the plan can be stopped. Results vary and are not promised.
