XERF
XERF uses two RF frequencies, so a plan can include shots at more than one depth profile.
How it works
XERF, made by Cynosure Lutronic, is a multi-frequency monopolar radiofrequency device that works at 2 MHz and 6.78 MHz. The lower frequency is generally associated with deeper tissue heating, while the higher one acts closer to the dermis. By combining them, a practitioner can address more than one layer in the same visit. The goal is gradual collagen remodeling, and the extent of any change varies from person to person.
Good to know
- A plan may use both frequencies, and the quote should say how many shots go to each.
- Tips are consumables with rated capacity, and a multi-frequency plan might consume more than one.
- The device's name sits beside a similarly named Lutronic product line, so the estimate should spell out XERF.
- Face-only and face-plus-neck plans use clearly different totals.
How XERF affects a treatment quote
What makes XERF worth asking about is that the quote can hide two numbers behind one. A clinic may plan a certain count at the deeper frequency and another at the shallower one. Ask for both counts, since they tell you what the doctor actually intends to do.
Once you have them, the usual cost questions follow. Is the tip included, how many visits does the figure cover, and is the neck inside or outside it? Does the price change if the doctor decides to use fewer shots on the day? Numbing and VAT each need a clear answer. Only after the in-person exam is the final plan settled, so use written estimates as a basis for comparison rather than a fixed offer.
XERF: common questions
Why does XERF have two frequencies?
The frequencies act at different depths, so the doctor can address more than one layer. This is why quotes may show two shot counts.
Do I pay more if both frequencies are used?
It depends on how the clinic prices. Ask whether the total is a fixed plan price or a sum of shots at each setting.
What should the estimate name?
The device name, the areas, the shot counts and the number of visits.
