Radiofrequency (RF) Lifting

Radiofrequency lifting heats the deeper skin to tighten it gradually. The cost question is rarely about the session and almost always about the tip, the number of pulses and the area treated.

How it works

A handpiece delivers radiofrequency energy through a tip placed on the skin, warming the dermis while surface cooling protects the top layer. Single-use tips are common, and each tip is rated for a set number of pulses. Larger areas or higher shot targets use more tips or higher-capacity ones. Monopolar systems reach deeper, bipolar systems stay shallower, and some machines combine both. Tightening develops over weeks and varies by person, and it is often repeated after several months.

Who it may suit

  • Early looseness around the jawline, cheeks or eyes
  • Fine lines and slightly crepey skin that need a gentle approach
  • People who want little downtime and can accept a gradual effect
  • Anyone planning a repeat every six to twelve months

The treatment day

  1. Assessment. The doctor judges laxity and discusses the area. Eye contour or neck treatment may be quoted as separate zones.
  2. Preparation. Skin is cleaned and a grounding pad or coupling gel is applied. Numbing cream is optional for many people.
  3. Treatment passes. The tip is moved over the skin in measured pulses, with the energy level adjusted to your comfort and response.
  4. Counting and record. The pulse count and tip type are noted. These are the numbers that tie the bill to what was done.

Aftercare

  • Mild warmth or redness usually fades within hours
  • Moisturize and apply sunscreen
  • Avoid hot baths and strong exfoliants for a couple of days
  • Contact the clinic if you notice blistering or lasting soreness
  • Keep the shot count in your records for planning repeats

Things to know first

  • Burns, blisters or uneven tightening are uncommon but possible
  • Fat loss or a hollow look in thin faces has been reported with high-energy settings
  • Not usually advised with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding and active skin infection are usual reasons to wait
  • Results vary by person and fade over time

What the price of RF lifting depends on

Most RF lifting is priced per shot or per tip package. A tip has a limited pulse capacity, so a face and neck session may use more than one. When a quote states only a session price, ask how many shots and how many tips are included, because that is the quantity you are actually buying.

Tip type and device affect the line too. Premium systems with single-use tips or high pulse counts often cost more than older reusable-tip machines. Neck, eye area and body zones may be priced as separate items. Ask whether the tip cost is built into the price or added at checkout.

Consider the timeline. If the doctor suggests a repeat after half a year, the useful figure is the annual total, not one visit. Ask whether tax is included and whether a course of several visits gives a different per-visit amount than one visit.

Radiofrequency (RF) Lifting: common questions

What is a shot on an RF quote?

It is one pulse of energy from the tip. Totals can range widely depending on the area, so compare quotes by shots per area and not by session name.

Why is the tip listed separately?

Tips are consumables with a set pulse capacity. Some clinics bundle them into the price and others itemize them, so ask which applies.

Will I need more than one visit?

Often one visit is followed by a repeat after several months. Your doctor decides this at the exam, and results vary by person.

Is a cheaper RF quote a worse treatment?

Not necessarily, but it may mean fewer shots, an older device or an unmentioned extra. Ask what the number includes.
