Discovery Pico
Discovery Pico combines picosecond and Q-switched modes in one platform, so a quote should name the mode used.
How it works
Discovery Pico, made by Quanta System, is a laser platform that can run in a picosecond mode and in a Q-switched Nd:YAG mode with nanosecond pulses. The picosecond mode uses extremely short pulses to fragment pigment, while the Q-switched mode delivers longer, higher-energy pulses that have a longer record in toning and tattoo work. The practitioner picks the mode and handpiece for the concern. Several sessions are usual and outcomes differ between people.
Good to know
- Two modes on one device means a clinic can offer a gentler toning series and a stronger spot treatment from the same machine, with separate prices.
- Handpieces include a wide toning spot and smaller spots for lesions, and the choice can influence session length.
- Tattoo plans are typically priced by size and ink, not by session alone.
- Quanta System also produces other platforms, so check that the name on the estimate is Discovery Pico.
How Discovery Pico affects a treatment quote
The thing to find out is which mode your plan uses, since the same machine can be billed as a picosecond treatment or as a Q-switched one. Clinics sometimes price them differently, and sometimes the same. A one-line answer in the estimate prevents confusion.
After that, divide the work into parts. A toning series over the whole face, a one-off spot and a tattoo are three separate plans. Ask for sessions and spacing for each, whether the figure is per session or for the set, and what is added for numbing and VAT. Because the device can handle several jobs, an all-in package for a mixed list of concerns deserves a request for itemization.
Discovery Pico: common questions
Does the picosecond mode cost more than Q-switched?
Some clinics price them apart and some do not. Ask which mode your plan uses and whether the price depends on it.
How should a mixed package be written?
With each concern as its own line, showing sessions, interval and area, so you can see what each part costs.
Is a tattoo estimate possible without a visit?
Only roughly. Size, color and depth are judged in person.
