Thread Lift
Absorbable threads are placed under the skin to give mild support and stimulate collagen. The quote should say how many threads, which kind and in which areas, because those details drive the total.
How it works
The doctor inserts thin absorbable threads, usually made of polydioxanone or similar materials, through a fine needle or cannula. Smooth threads add a light skin-quality effect, while barbed or cogged threads grip tissue to give modest lift. After the threads dissolve over months, collagen formed around them may persist for a time. The number of threads, their length and type, and the areas treated set the cost. Results vary by person and are usually repeated rather than lasting indefinitely.
Who it may suit
- Mild to moderate sagging in the midface or jawline
- People who prefer a shorter recovery than surgery
- Those who want gentle support combined with other treatments
- Patients who understand that results are temporary
The treatment day
- Consultation. The doctor evaluates sagging, bone structure and skin quality and proposes a thread type and count.
- Local anesthesia. Local anesthetic is injected where the threads will pass. This is typically part of the procedure cost, but confirm.
- Thread placement. Threads are inserted along planned paths and the tissue is positioned. Each thread used should be recorded.
- Review. The doctor checks symmetry. A follow-up visit may be included or charged separately.
Aftercare
- Swelling and bruising commonly last several days
- Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised
- Avoid heavy chewing and wide yawning for a short period
- Skip facial massage and dental work for the time advised
- Contact the clinic if you see dimpling, fever or increasing pain
Things to know first
- Bruising, pulling sensations, asymmetry, thread visibility, infection and dimpling can occur
- Threads occasionally move or surface and may need removal
- Not suitable with active infection, bleeding disorders or some blood thinners without advice
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding are usual reasons to postpone
- Results are modest and temporary, and advanced sagging may need a different approach
What the price of a thread lift depends on
Thread count is the main quantity. A lift of the midface may use a handful of threads, while a full-face plan uses many more. Ask the clinic to write the number of threads per area, their length and whether they are smooth, barbed or cogged, since these types are priced differently.
The product line matters. Threads differ in material, design and manufacturer, and imported brands generally cost more than domestic ones. Ask for the product name so you can verify it later. Local anesthesia, the consultation fee, tax and any follow-up visit should each appear as a line or as included.
Because absorbable threads dissolve, the useful figure is the cost per year of effect, not only the price of one procedure. Combining threads with other lifting treatments may be discussed; if so, ask for each part itemized so you can see what is being added.
Thread Lift: common questions
Why is the number of threads so important?
It is the quantity you are buying. Two quotes for the same area can contain very different counts and products.
Are different thread brands priced differently?
Yes. Material, design and origin all affect cost. Ask for the specific product name.
Is anesthesia charged separately?
Sometimes. Local anesthesia is common, but some quotes list it as an add-on. Confirm in advance.
What if a thread needs to be removed?
Ask about the policy on complications and whether follow-up care is included.
