How laser and pigment treatments are priced

Laser toning, pico lasers, IPL, vascular lasers, and lesion removal can look similar on a price list but are billed differently. Some are sold per session, others per course, and lesion work is often priced per spot or size. This page shows where those differences come from and how to choose.

How to choose

  1. Per session or per course

Toning and IPL are often series. A course figure assumes a set count, so ask what happens to unused sessions.

  2. Area versus lesion count

Whole-face work is priced by area. Moles, spots, and tattoos are more often priced by number or size, and size changes the plan.

  3. Device and wavelength

Different pigments and vessels respond to different wavelengths. A plan that needs more than one system can add visits.

  4. Skin tone and condition

The doctor may choose milder settings and more visits for some skin. This affects the total, not only the per-visit number.

  5. Aftercare and follow-up

Sun protection, topical products, and a review visit may be separate lines. Ask which are included.

When a doctor may advise waiting

  • Anyone who has recently had strong sun exposure or a tan, since this may mean waiting.
  • People who are pregnant or use photosensitizing medication, who should ask the doctor first.
  • Anyone with a changing or irregular mole; it needs an exam and possibly testing before any removal.

Laser & Pigment: common questions

Why is tattoo removal priced so differently from toning?

Ink size, color, and depth drive the number of sessions, and sessions are spaced weeks apart. A per-session figure is easier to compare than a total.

Is a course price worth it?

It can lower the per-visit figure but commits you up front. Ask for the refund or transfer terms for unused sessions.

Why does the doctor want to see my skin before quoting?

The cause of the pigment decides the method. A spot that looks harmless may need a different plan or a test first.
